Garage door panel replacement

A cracked or dented panel on a sectional door doesn't automatically mean a new door. It usually means one afternoon and a matching panel.

When a panel swap works

Sectional doors are built in horizontal panels for exactly this reason, so a single damaged section can come out and a new one go in without touching the rest of the door. We'll need the make and model, sometimes a photo of the manufacturer's sticker inside the garage, so we order the right match rather than a close-enough colour.

This applies whether the damage is a dent from a reversing car, a crack from impact, or rust that's taken hold on one section while the rest of the door is sound. In all three cases, replacing just the affected panel is usually cheaper and faster than a full door, and it's the right call more often than people expect.

When it doesn't

Up-and-over doors are one solid panel, so damage there generally does mean a full replacement, not a repair. And on any door older than about fifteen years, there's a real chance the exact panel is discontinued, in which case we'll be straight with you about whether a slightly different match is good enough or whether it's time to talk about a new door instead.

Rust is the other flag worth mentioning. If corrosion has spread beyond the one visibly damaged panel, patching a single section just delays the same conversation for the neighbouring panels. We'll tell you if that's what we're looking at rather than selling you a repair that's a stopgap dressed up as a fix.

Matching colours and finishes

Manufacturers do change finishes and ranges over the years, so a panel bought new ten years ago isn't guaranteed to be an exact colour match today, even from the same brand. We'll flag this upfront if we spot a risk, better to know before the job than after, when it's fitted and slightly off.

Common questions

Usually from the manufacturer's data plate inside the garage, which tells us the exact model and finish rather than guessing from a photo.

We'll check for a close match first. If nothing's close enough, we'll talk you through replacement options rather than fitting something that looks obviously wrong.

Often, if the damage was accidental (a vehicle impact, for example). We can provide an itemised quote for a claim if you need one.
