Garage door servicing

Most of the repairs on this site are preventable. A yearly check catches the small stuff before it becomes an emergency callout.

What's actually in a service

01

Spring & cable inspection

Checked for wear, fraying, and correct tension, the two components most likely to fail without warning.

02

Tracks & rollers

Alignment checked, fixings tightened, worn rollers flagged before they cause an off-track fault.

03

Hinges & brackets

Lubricated and checked for looseness, a major source of the noise people put up with for years.

04

Motor & opener checks

Force settings, travel limits, and safety reversal all tested, not just "does it open and close."

05

Locks & seals

Lock mechanism lubricated, weather seal checked for perishing.

Why the safety reversal check matters

A powered door's auto-reverse function, which stops and reverses the door if it senses resistance, is a genuine safety feature, not a nice-to-have. Testing it properly is part of any real service, not just confirming the door opens and closes. If yours hasn't been checked in a while, that's worth knowing regardless of whether anything else feels wrong.

How often, honestly

Once a year for an average household door is a sensible default. If your garage sees heavy daily use, a workshop, a shared property, a household running multiple cars through it, every six months makes more sense. We'll tell you honestly if annual is overkill for a door that barely gets touched, or if you're due sooner than you think.

What a service actually prevents

Most emergency callouts on this site trace back to something a service would have caught, a fraying cable, a spring nearing the end of its cycle count, rollers worn enough to eventually walk the door off its track. None of those show up as sudden failures to someone paying attention, they show up as small warning signs first. A service is really just paying someone to notice those signs before you're stuck calling us on a Sunday evening instead.

What it costs

A full service typically runs £70–£110, considerably less than most single repairs, and often catches the fault that would have become one.

Common questions

That's exactly when it's most useful, catching wear before it becomes a fault rather than reacting after something's already broken.

Yes, and it's often when we find the most, older doors that have never had a proper check tend to have a few things worth addressing.
